FIRE has gutted Heanor's indoor market leaving stallholders devastated.
The blaze at Cosy Market is thought to have started in a card shop and caused damage which will cost thousands of pounds to repair.
The fire took hold at about 10pm on December 21 and three fire crews battled to save the complex but it has been left a blackened shell.
One stallholder, Deborah Colliver of Jano's Mental Motors, witnessed the fire after receiving a phone call at 10.30pm.
She said: 'There was smoke coming out everywhere and the fire melted the plastic cases of the DVDs.
'All the stallholders are finding this very distressing.'
She said that although the cause was still under investigation it was believed to be an electrical fault and they were now taking legal advice as to who was responsible.
She said on Tuesday that they were concerned they had not yet been allowed access to the remains of the market.
Carol Stott, who has taken five years to build up her dvd and video stall on the market, said: 'We are very worried about the future, there are a lot of husband and wife teams who had stalls in the market. Now there will be no bread winner in the family.'
Carol and husband Mel of Mel's Collectable's are now looking at a bleak future as they are not insured. "
